Ask anyone who stood on the terraces in the 80s what they wore, and Lois comes up fast. The 80s casual movement rewrote matchday dress codes — out went the scarves and replica shirts, in came European denim and cords — and Lois was right at the front of it.

Now the original casuals favourite is back at a price the 80s never saw: from just £39, down from £85. If you’ve been meaning to get a pair, this is the moment — because when Lois goes on sale, the right sizes don’t hang around.

The deal at a glance

Lois Jeans: Why the 80s Casuals Loved Them

Lois was born in Valencia, Spain, in 1962, when the Sáez Merino family started making denim. It became one of the first European jeans brands to take on the American giants — with slimmer, more stylish European cuts instead of baggy workwear, and that unmistakable charging bull on the patch.

That was exactly what the casuals were after. The whole point of the look was to wear what the lad next to you didn’t have, and Lois wasn’t sold on every British high street. A pair brought back from a European away trip, or tracked down in the one shop that had them, said you knew what you were doing. Lois denim and cords spread across the terraces from Liverpool to London, worn with adidas trainers, knitwear and Italian sportswear.

Spotlight — New Season

Lois Sierra Thin Cord — Dark Sand

£85 · New season

Stylist notes

The Lois Sierra was all over the terraces first time round — and now it’s back in a seasonal thin cord that keeps all the comfort and practicality of the original.

Made in Spain from a soft stretch cotton, it’s a regular-fit, straight-leg five-pocket with tonal stitching to match the Dark Sand colourway and a proper button fly. The bull on the coin pocket and the Lois tabs on both back pockets finish it off.

Wear it with a casual shirt for an understated look in the warmer months, or with a crew-neck and a pair of Spezials when the weather turns.

Lois Jumbo Cords: The Ultimate 80s Throwback

If one item sums up Lois on the terraces, it’s the cords. Thick-wale Lois jumbo cords were comfortable, hard-wearing and instantly recognisable — the kind of trousers you could spot across a station concourse. They’ve aged better than almost anything else from the era, and they still look right today with a pair of trainers and a crew-neck jumper.

Lois cords have always been the piece people hunt for. If it’s cords you’re after, don’t wait for your size to disappear.

Lois Jeans — FAQs

Why did 80s football casuals wear Lois jeans?

Lois offered something British high streets didn’t: a slimmer European cut, bold cords and that charging-bull patch. It wasn’t sold everywhere in the UK, so a pair brought back from the continent or tracked down in the right shop marked you out on the terraces — from Liverpool to London.

Where is Lois from?

Lois was founded in Valencia, Spain, in 1962 by the Sáez Merino family, and was one of the first European denim labels to take on the big American jeans brands.

What are Lois jumbo cords?

Jumbo cords are trousers in thick, wide-wale corduroy. Lois cords were one of the defining pieces of the 80s casual look, worn with adidas trainers, knitwear or a track top.

How much are Lois jeans in the sale?

At the time of writing, the Lois range at Stuarts London starts from £39, down from £85. Prices and sizes can change at any time, so check the retailer for the latest.

Where can I buy Lois jeans in the UK?

Stuarts London stocks the current Lois range, including the Marvin jeans, Terrace jeans, Sierra jeans and jumbo cords.

What trainers go with Lois jeans?

For the authentic 80s look, classic adidas Originals terrace trainers — Samba, Gazelle, Handball Spezial, SL 72 — are the natural partner for Lois denim and cords.
